Job Description
Position Summary: 
The Engineering/Technical Buyer is responsible to work closely with the engineering team and contract customer(s) to develop the supply chain for the contracted product. This can include working with existing suppliers and/or developing new supplier relationships; both distributor and direct. This position works closely with production control to ensure production schedules are met while striving to manage costs, lead times, and where possible, reductions in both. This position will also be charged with meeting the supply chain goals as well as company goals while maintaining ethical business practices.  This position will be reporting to the Vice-President, Engineering. 
Principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs complex purchasing activities including pricing, volume discounts, negotiating terms and long-term contracts with suppliers, and delivery of goods\services
  • Negotiates best terms (price, delivery, and payment terms) with suppliers, while maintaining efficient output of purchase orders, to reach highest quality at best value
  • Establishes source selection criteria for evaluation of quotations including target pricing
  • Evaluates quotations received from prospective suppliers and makes decisions regarding award of purchase orders
  • Implements formal and legal contractual documentation into the purchase orders, encompassing all corporate and government requirements
  • Resolves discrepancies between purchase order requirements and supplier performance
  • Ensures compliance to government laws, regulations and procurement policies and procedures
  • Identifies problem areas, initiates corrective action and establishes problem resolution dates in a timely manner
  • Maintains current and accurate purchase order data in the purchasing system (e.g. delivery dates, pricing, change orders)
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required.

  • Knowledge of warehouse inventory levels, blue prints, terms and conditions, contracts, pricing, purchase orders, blanket orders and sales and marketing data
  • Ability to work with persons in difficult situations managing conflict and taking personal ownership of special projects.
Preferred education and experience:
  • Requires 3-5 years’ previous job experience as an engineering/technical buyer in a low volume-high mix manufacturing environment. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain management and/or professional purchasing certification a plus.
  • Previous experience utilizing MRP/ERP systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and other software products including, but not limited to: Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
