Job Summary

The Machining Specialist sets up, operates, and programs computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment. Equipment may include, but is not limited to: CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, CNC press brakes, CNC mills, and 80 + ton Benders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specification, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished product.
2. Determines the sequence of operations and set up requirements. Selects proper fixtures, tooling, accessories and materials to be completed.
3. Calculates and sets controls to produce quality parts in the most efficient manner.
4. Verifies conformance of finished product using various measuring tools.
5. Develops, writes and edits programs for product completion.
6. Operates all equipment in a cell environment.
7. Performs and documents level 1 TPMs and level 2 TPMs if required.
8. At all times works in a safe manner, following all safety guidelines.
9. Supports 5S/workplace organization goals of the department and offers suggestions and makes improvements that achieve the department’s performance board metrics.

Education and/or Experience

- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in machining.
- Six months to one year related experience and/or training.

Other Skills and Abilities

- Read blueprints.
- Write routine reports and intra-department communications.
- Calculate figures and apply concepts of fractions, percentages and ratios.
- Apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and statistical quality control.
- Effectively present information verbally and written and respond to questions from groups of managers, suppliers, customer, and dealers.
- Perform basic Microsoft Office skills, CAD and other software.
- Perform problem solving techniques and root cause analysis.
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to assess, evaluate, and carry out appropriate action for a given situation.
